AC Milan salvaged a point from their trip to Cagliari on Sunday night with Gonzalo Higuain scoring his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw.
Joao Pedro scored early on as the hosts made a fast start, overrunning the Rossoneri with their intensity and energy as we simply had no answer to their early pressure.
Having eventually overcome the storm, we settled into the game and ultimately dominated much of the second half. However, after Higuain bagged the equaliser early on after the interval, we were unable to find that crucial second breakthrough to turn the game around.
In turn, it’s a disappointing setback after the high of defeating Roma prior to the international break, as Milan failed to replicate the quality shown in that performance in terms of their possession and ability to control the tempo of the game throughout.
Fortunately, we were able to come away with a point and with several obvious areas in which we must improve. Nevertheless, with the likes of Inter and Roma slipping up this weekend, it also feels like an opportunity missed for us as we could have built some momentum and opened up an early gap.
Instead, a win over Dudelange in the Europa League on Thursday night will be key to boost confidence, with Atalanta visiting the San Siro next weekend.
