Milan eventually overcame Sampdoria in their Coppa Italia clash on Saturday evening with a 2-0 win after extra time.
In truth, the Rossoneri toiled over 90 minutes, with Sampdoria enjoying plenty of possession and creating countless opportunities with Pepe Reina producing an excellent display between the posts.

However, after introducing Andrea Conti and Patrick Cutrone ahead of extra time, Gennaro Gattuso got the impact that he hoped for as the substitutes linked up brilliantly to break the deadlock, as seen in the video below.

From Conti’s pin-point cross to find Cutrone to the composed and controlled finish from the youngster, it was a superb goal that finally gave us the advantage at a crucial stage of the game.
While the hosts were seemingly tiring having played at such a high tempo and with great urgency throughout the game, the victory was secured soon after with Hakan Calhanoglu producing a brilliant assist of his own, with his left foot, to find Cutrone in behind the Samp defence.
As seen below, the 21-year-old had the awareness and composure to send a lobbed effort over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net as he wrapped up the win with a stunning impact off the bench.
Although it wasn’t convincing for the most part, it’s a morale-boosting win for Milan to start 2019, as they now prepare to fly out to Jeddah to face Juventus for the Supercoppa.
For now though, it’s great to see Conti and Calhanoglu making such a decisive impact, while Cutrone has undoubtedly made his case to start ahead of Higuain in the upcoming games.
