Double AC Milan injury boost: Gattuso provides positive update on key duo

Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso has confirmed that both Mattia Caldara and Lucas Biglia are edging ever closer to returning to action.

Biglia has been limited to just 11 appearances so far this season due to a calf injury, with his last appearance coming back in late October.

Unfortunately for Caldara, he has fared worse as the 24-year-old has made just one appearance all season having been a long-term absentee with an Achilles injury.

In turn, it will be a huge boost to have them both back available, adding real quality and depth to the squad as we continue to scrap for a top four finish in Serie A this year.

Nevertheless, it could be argued that the pair will have difficulty getting back into the line-up, with Tiemoue Bakayoko and Mateo Musacchio impressing in their absence.

However, particularly in the case of Caldara, the sooner that he can start to build his partnership with Alessio Romagnoli the better, while Biglia’s wider range of qualities, particularly in possession, make him a key piece in the side in the deeper midfield role.

For Gattuso though, he’ll be delighted to continue to get key players back from injury at such a crucial time of the season as he edges ever closer to having a fully-fit squad to call upon.

“Caldara and Biglia did a part of the training session with the group yesterday doing fitness work, and I think that within a week they will be available,” he told Milan TV, as per the tweet below.

“We’re very happy, they have a great desire to return and they are proving it with all the commitment that they have been putting in the last few days to be back available.”
