AC Milan transfer news: Battle with Arsenal for winger, Pato return possible in summer?

Milan reportedly face a transfer battle with Arsenal if they wish to pursue Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr, while Alexandre Pato is now a free agent.

The wide positions are undoubtedly an area in which we can improve, with Gennaro Gattuso currently heavily relying on Suso and Hakan Calhanoglu, with Samu Castillejo the only quality depth at his disposal.

In turn, that could be an area to prioritise in the summer, and Sarr is being touted as a potential solution to that problem but Calciomercato report that Arsenal could provide stiff competition for his signature.

The 21-year-old is having an impressive campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions, while being used on the left and right wing by the Ligue 1 outfit.

Naturally, it would be a significant step up in quality if he were to join us, and so the hierarchy must be convinced that he’s capable of taking his game to the next level.

At 21, he still has his entire career ahead of him and would fit with the strategy of building a young squad to create a new cycle at Milan, but time will tell if our interest is genuine firstly, and if so, if we can fend off Arsenal and add him to the squad.

Meanwhile, Calciomercato also report that Pato has officially left Tianjin Tianhai, and is now a free agent.

It’s suggested that a return to Brazil is the most likely scenario for the 29-year-old, but the possibility of a return to Milan was touted in January and will perhaps resurface in the summer.

On one hand, it’s difficult to put the sentimental aspect aside given his previous stint and popularity with supporters, but on the other, perhaps as a third choice option up front behind Krzysztof Piatek and Patrick Cutrone to provide depth next season, he could still be useful having put his injuries woes behind him.
