Amid speculation linking Milan with an interest in Lokomotiv Moscow star Aleksey Miranchuk, would such a swoop be a sensible move from the Rossoneri?
As noted by MilanNews, via SportMediaset, it’s suggested that the Russian ace is on our transfer radar, but we could face competition if we were to step up our pursuit.
With the Rossoneri seemingly considering attacking reinforcements this summer, would Miranchuk be the right addition to bring more quality to our play in the final third?
Silky, talented playmaker in final third
Aged 24, Miranchuk has 25 caps for the senior Russia side to his name already, having represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 level prior to that.
He has now racked up 223 appearances for the Lokomotiv first team, with his overall tallies standing at 41 goals and 44 assists.
Importantly though, he’s coming off the back of his most productive campaign to date having scored 16 goals and provided five assists in 32 games.
As the video below showcases, he boasts good physical strength when in possession and he’s a hard-worker who has a tenacious side to his game, while his technical quality and skill allows him to take on players and get past them with ease at times to set up dangerous situations as he attacks the backline.
He’s a silky, composed figure who has the ability to pick his head up and find the right pass while evidently he poses a direct threat himself too.
With the versatility to play out wide as well, he could be a smart fit for our preferred 4-2-3-1 system under Stefano Pioli, occupying any one of the three creative spots behind the frontman, and so it’s interesting to see how the Milan management may well be planning and identifying targets who fit our style, system and needs to further develop the successful formula we’ve found since the restart.
Given his position and role on the pitch, it’s crucial that he can offer different types of a threat. That can be seen with his vision, passing range and ability in front of goal, and while he might not be the first name that jumps off the page when considering possible targets to improve our squad this summer, it seems Milan have done their homework and identified a player who has the potential to offer us more quality in the final third if he were to secure a move to Italy.
With Hakan Calhanoglu, Ante Rebic and Samu Castillejo arguably the first-choice options behind our lone striker, while stalwart Giacomo Bonaventura could provide valuable experience and depth if he signs a new deal this summer, any swoop for Miranchuk would arguably raise doubts over the future of Lucas Paqueta.
Both men are left-footed, like to play through the middle in a creative role and share other similar characteristics. With the Brazilian struggling to prove his worth this year, perhaps Miranchuk could be lined up to replace him and give us another important option in the final third.
If that’s the case, he has certainly made a strong argument to earn Milan’s interest, and so time will tell if he emerges as our first-choice target to bolster the squad this summer.
