AC Milan transfer news: €25m-rated Serie A ace eyed, renewal meeting planned

Milan have reportedly enquired about Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne, while a meeting is being planned to discuss Giacomo Bonaventura’s contract renewal.

The more immediate focus for the Rossoneri will be on securing qualification for the Champions League, and after some smart work in the January transfer window, Gennaro Gattuso has undoubtedly seen his squad strengthened.

It’s hoped that Leonardo and Paolo Maldini can continue that impressive work in the summer, particularly if we do seal a return to Europe’s top table.

In the mould of our recent signings, MilanNews.it note that Castagne has emerged on our transfer radar, although Atalanta won’t accept anything less than €25m for the 23-year-old.

The Belgian international has scored three goals and provided three assists in 21 appearances so far this season, showcasing his versatility to play on either flank while also being a more than capable defensive option too with plenty of room for development.

With our lack of quality depth in the wide positions, it would certainly address a key flaw in our squad if a move was made, but that’s a significant fee which could arguably be better spent elsewhere on a more established option.

Time will tell if Castagne is eyed as a priority target this summer, but it could be considered another sensible signing from Atalanta given our recent raids for Franck Kessie and Andrea Conti.

Bonaventura renewal talks planned

Meanwhile, Calciomercato report that agent Mino Raiola is planning to meet with the Milan hierarchy in the coming weeks to discuss a renewal for Bonaventura.

The 29-year-old has been sidelined since the end of October and eventually underwent knee surgery, which has ruled him out until the start of next season.

Despite the presence and influence of the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Hakan Calhanoglu on the left side of our XI, there is no doubt that Bonaventura is missed.

With that in mind, it’s hoped that an agreement will be reached on a renewal, with his current deal set to expire in June 2020. Firstly though, his return to full health is the most important factor for all concerned.
