Gattuso on Caldara, Higuain and Cutrone injury news ahead of Milan-Atalanta

AC Milan take on Atalanta on Sunday evening and Gennaro Gattuso spoke to the media ahead of the game and discussed various individuals.

The Rossoneri were held to a disappointing draw to Cagliari last time out, and didn’t particularly impress against Dudelange in the Europa League in midweek.

With that in mind, we’ll be hoping for a much improved performance and all three points when Gian Piero Gasperini’s men visit this weekend.

Gattuso is fully aware of the qualities of our upcoming opponents and expects it to be a tough game, while he also spoke individually about players too, offering a level of insight into what the starting line-up might look like as well as his thoughts on the progress being made by others.

Here are the best bits from his press conference:

On Atalanta: “Atalanta are a solid team and can be difficult to play against. They want to bounce back after the two defeats in their last two outings. We need to play a really good game. Every year Gasperini signs the same type of players to play like he wants to. They press high up the pitch and we have to do well to trouble them”.

On Higuain: “I consider him the best striker in the world, he scores goals, he helps the team, he’s a top player. We need to take advantage of his qualities. I want him to run behind defence more, putting more pressure on the defenders in the final third.”

On Caldara: “Caldara played a really good game in Europa League, he can be of great help to the team.”

On Cutrone injury: “We’ll see if Cutrone can make it for tomorrow, his ankle is still bothering him: he can’t wait to be back in the fold.”

On tactics: “We can play in a 4-3-2-1 system but we need to work on it. Many are away on international duty during the break. We need time to work on a system of play. Two training sessions are not enough. We have players who can play in different systems”.

On Laxalt: “I am really pleased with Laxalt and all the players. Diego is a pacey player. He could start against Atalanta. We are very happy to have him with us.”
