How AC Milan could line up vs Atalanta: Key change from Gattuso, strong XI touted

AC Milan will host Atalanta at the San Siro on Sunday evening as we look to improve on our draw with Cagliari last time out.

The Rossoneri impressed against Roma prior to the international break, but they’ve undoubtedly stuttered through games against Cagliari and Dudelange over the past week.

In turn, Gennaro Gattuso will be eager to see a much-improved display from the players over the course of the 90 minutes this weekend, and it’s expected that he will return to a familiar looking line-up.

As noted by Sky Sport Italia, the only possible change to the usual XI that we see is Mattia Caldara replacing Mateo Musacchio in the heart of the backline, after the 24-year-old impressed in the Europa League on Thursday night.

It has taken our summer recruit time to settle and adjust to playing in a back four, but after putting in a solid display after a shaky start in midweek, it appears as though he could continue to solidify his partnership with Alessio Romagnoli this weekend.

Aside from that though, it’s likely to be as we were when at full-strength with Gianluigi Donnarumma, Davide Calabria, Ricardo Rodriguez, Franck Kessie, Lucas Biglia, Giacomo Bonaventura, Suso and Hakan Calhanoglu all being tipped to return to the starting line-up.

Perhaps an argument can be made that Diego Laxalt did enough against Dudelange to earn a starting berth on Sunday, but time will tell if Gattuso believes otherwise and brings Rodriguez back into the side.

Elsewhere, Suso and Calhanoglu will hope to pull the strings out wide, with Gonzalo Higuain looking to score in his third consecutive game as he’ll undoubtedly lead the line once again with Patrick Cutrone recovering from an ankle injury.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Calabria, Caldara, Romagnoli, Rodriguez; Kessié, Biglia, Bonaventura; Suso, Higuaín, Calhanoglu.
