The Brazilian starlet bagged 10 goals and four assists in 39 appearances this season for Flamengo, and as seen in the video below, he bid an emotional farewell to his hometown club this past weekend as he prepares for the next chapter in his career.

Given the quality that he has displayed in Brazil, it had been suggested that several clubs from around Europe were keen on signing him, but Milan won the race and he has now revealed that Leonardo was key in the decision-making process.

“If I have chosen the Rossoneri, it is all thanks to him, he has called me and convinced me immediately, I have to thank him,” he is quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport. “The most important thing is that Milan has a serious project for my career, for a young Brazilian who moves to Europe is the most important thing and Milan has given me ample assurances.

“Both for my future and for that of my family, it is the best choice I could make and I can not wait to start this new adventure.”

Meanwhile, he also revealed that he hopes to take the No.39 jersey on his arrival at the San Siro, as the countdown begins to see him begin his new challenge with us.

“I asked to wear the number 39, the same with which I debuted in the first team at Flamengo and that brought me so much luck.”

Particularly with Giacomo Bonaventura now sidelined with a serious injury after undergoing knee surgery, Paqueta could be set for an immediate, crucial role for us in midfield to provide creativity and a goal threat to add balance to the midfield again alongside the likes of Lucas Biglia and Franck Kessie.
